Today, we’re bringing you highlights from the weekend’s Christmas events and a look ahead at what’s coming up. But first, let’s talk about White Ribbon Day and its powerful theme, “It Starts with Men.” 🧡
Before we dive in, a huge welcome to our new subscribers—so happy to have you here! 🎉 Got ideas or feedback? Share them with us. We want to make Broxtown your favorite local read!
Let’s get started! 💌
🧡 White Ribbon Day: It Starts with Men 🧡
This year’s White Ribbon Day, was observed across the UK yesterday, shines a spotlight on ending violence against women and girls (VAWG). The theme, “It Starts with Men,” emphasizes the vital role men play in championing gender equality and challenging attitudes and beliefs that can lead to abuse and violence.
White Ribbon Day also kicks off the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, a global campaign running until 10th December. Here in Hertfordshire, the council is leading the way with services and programs to support victims, survivors, families, and even those seeking help to change harmful behaviors.
Throughout the campaign, daily activities will highlight the incredible work being done to combat domestic abuse and VAWG across the county. It’s a chance to learn more, get involved, and show support. 🌻
About White Ribbon UK
White Ribbon UK is a charity dedicated to preventing violence against women and girls by addressing its root causes. They focus on breaking down harmful attitudes, behaviors, and systems tied to rigid gender norms and toxic expressions of masculinity that fuel inequality and abuse.
Ending gender-based violence starts with all of us. Let’s come together to create safer, more equal communities. 💪🧡

Word of The Day
CHASTISE
Today’s Word of the Day is CHASTISE - means to reprimand, criticize, or rebuke someone severely. It is often used in the context of correcting or scolding someone's behavior or actions. Historically, it also carried the meaning of physical punishment, but in modern usage, it is typically limited to verbal or written criticism.
How to use it:
To Reprimand Someone:
The teacher chastised the students for not completing their homework on time.
To Criticize Harshly:
The coach chastised the team for their poor performance in the game.
To Express Disapproval:
She chastised her friend for being late to the meeting.
While "chastise" often conveys strong disapproval, the tone and context can vary depending on the situation.
