What’s happening in Broxbourne?

St. James Church Hosts Family Light Party: A Bright Alternative to Halloween Fun

The popular Light Party is returning to St. James Church on Sunday, 3rd November, offering a family-friendly alternative to the usual Halloween activities. Families with children aged 3-11(ish!) are invited to enjoy an evening of crafts, games, a light trail in the churchyard, and hotdogs.

The event celebrates Jesus as the Light of the World, encouraging attendees to dress in bright, sparkly, and fun outfits.

Tickets are free, and the church is looking forward to welcoming the community for this joyful evening.

Extra Police Patrols Planned for Halloween and Bonfire Night in Broxbourne

As Halloween and Bonfire Night approach, residents can expect increased police patrols across Broxbourne to ensure a safe and enjoyable celebration period. The extra presence aims to deter anti-social behavior and reassure the community.

With Halloween being a particularly busy time for the police, here’s a quick reminder of safety tips:

  • Children should always be accompanied by an adult when trick-or-treating.

  • Only visit homes displaying Halloween decorations or ‘Trick or Treaters Welcome’ signs.

  • Keep it friendly—any behavior that damages property or threatens others is a crime.

  • Fireworks should only be set off in private spaces and before 11 p.m. (midnight on Bonfire Night).

Additionally, Broxbourne police are running a Halloween quiz competition for children, offering a chance to win tickets to the Warner Bros. Studio Tour – The Making of Harry Potter. Entries close on Wednesday, 6th November.

Stay safe and have fun!

Word of The Day

INTRANSIGENT

Today’s Word of the Day is INTRANSIGENT - means being unwilling or refusing to change one's views or to agree about something. It describes someone who is inflexible, uncompromising, or stubborn in their stance, often in a way that hinders progress or negotiation.

How to use it:

  • The company's intransigent stance on wages led to a prolonged strike by the workers.

  • Despite repeated efforts to negotiate, he remained intransigent, refusing to accept any compromises.

  • Her intransigent attitude made it difficult to find a middle ground during the debate.

It is often used in situations where two sides are negotiating or debating, and one side is not willing to adjust or meet halfway.
