Local Authorities Focus on Safety Amidst Storm Éowyn Warnings

As Storm Éowyn made landfall, local authorities across Broxbourne and surrounding areas issued clear warnings and guidance to residents to prepare for potential disruptions and ensure safety. This report highlights the key focus areas and actions taken by different authorities in response to the storm:
Key Concerns Highlighted by National Weather Services:
Power Cuts: Residents were warned about the likelihood of power cuts, which could disrupt essential services like mobile phone coverage.
Danger to Life and Property: Flying debris, large waves, and beach material posed risks to life and properties, especially along coastal roads and sea fronts.
Transport Disruption: Roads, rail, air, and ferry services were expected to face significant delays, cancellations, and possible closures of roads and bridges.
Structural Damage: Damage to buildings, such as roof tiles being blown off, was anticipated.
1. Broxbourne Borough Council:
Focused on minimising litter and hazards caused by unsecured bins during the storm.
Issued a friendly reminder to residents:
“With the stormy weather brewing, please remember to bring in your bins and boxes as soon as possible after collection and to secure them with lids and nets to prevent recyclables from scattering in the wind.”
2. County Council:
Highlighted the potential danger of falling trees and branches due to the strong winds.
Provided instructions for residents to report fallen trees or branches to ensure rapid response and maintain public safety:
“Stay safe. With a yellow weather warning in place for strong winds this week, if you come across any fallen trees or branches, please report them.”
The coordinated efforts of Broxbourne Borough Council and the County Council reflect a proactive approach to mitigating risks associated with Storm Éowyn. The focus on securing household items, addressing environmental hazards, and encouraging public vigilance demonstrates the authorities' commitment to community safety. Tottenham Secure Crucial Europa League Victory
Hoffenhiem 2 | 3 Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur boosted their Europa League hopes with a 3-2 win over Hoffenheim, putting them in contention for automatic qualification to the knockout stage. Son Heung-min scored twice, alongside an early strike from James Maddison, in a much-needed victory for Spurs after a difficult domestic season that sees them 15th in the Premier League.
Spurs started strong, with Maddison finding the net in the fourth minute after a well-placed ball from Pedro Porro. Son added a second with a deflected strike midway through the first half. Despite Hoffenheim’s second-half fightback, including goals from Anton Stach and David Mokwa, Son’s second goal secured the win.
Tottenham are now in sixth place in their Europa League phase and will host Elfsborg next Thursday, where a win would likely secure their place in the knockout stage.
