Storm Darragh Disrupts Local Events in Broxbourne; Cheshunt Heroes Save Woman on Tracks
Good morning! It is FriYay!!
Happy Friday! The weekend has arrived, but Storm Darragh looms large, forcing the cancellation of Christmas events in Waltham Cross and the Santa Sleigh tour in Cheshunt. While some are feeling the disappointment, Cheshunt is proving itself a hub for Good Samaritans, with inspiring acts of kindness shining through. Here’s a roundup of the cancellations and messages from the organisers:
1. Santa Sleigh Tour by 1st Cheshunt Scout Group
The popular Santa Sleigh Tour has been put on hold due to technical issues exacerbated by the stormy weather.

Cheshunt Heroes Save Woman on Tracks: Help Us Recognise These Good Samaritans
A recent incident at Cheshunt railway station was reported on BBC News this week showcasing the bravery of local Good Samaritans. Janet Burr, in her 60s, was en route from Cheshunt to London when she lost her footing and fell backward onto the tracks. Two unidentified men immediately sprang into action, lifting her back onto the platform, ensuring her safety before the arrival of any trains. Mrs. Burr was subsequently taken to the hospital, where she is reported to be "doing fine."
Her son, Ian, expressed profound gratitude, stating, "They put their lives at risk to save her, and they don't even know her." The family is eager to identify and personally thank these heroes. Rail operator Greater Anglia has assisted by sharing a post on X (formerly Twitter) to aid in locating the two men.
Cheshunt is renowned for its residents' selflessness and community spirit. At Broxtown, we are committed to recognizing and celebrating such acts of heroism. If you have any information about these individuals or know of others who have performed similar noble deeds, please reach out to us. We aim to honour and appreciate those who make our community a safer and more compassionate place.
