WHAT’S HAPPENING IN OUR COMMUNITIES?

Police Step Up Knife Detection and Safety Efforts Ahead of Festive Season

With the festive season approaching, Broxbourne police are increasing visibility across Hertfordshire for the national Sceptre campaign, targeting knife crime and boosting community safety. Officers are conducting knife detection operations and educating residents. A #knifeamnesty is running until Sunday, 17 November 2024, urging the public to safely surrender any dangerous weapons. Broxbourne police encourage community cooperation to foster a safer environment for all.

Broxbourne Neighbourhood Policing Team Hosts Community Engagement in Hoddesdon

This week, officers from the Broxbourne Neighbourhood Policing Team were on hand in Hoddesdon, hosting a police surgery at the local library. Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) Karen Lawrence and Sue Mills engaged with residents, addressing crime prevention and discussing any concerns affecting the area.

During the session, the officers also signed community members up for Herts Connected, a messaging platform that provides local crime updates and safety alerts. The police surgery was an excellent opportunity for residents to connect directly with local officers and learn about ongoing crime prevention efforts in the area.

The Broxbourne team’s presence in Hoddesdon underscores their commitment to maintaining open communication with the public, empowering the community with the information and resources needed to help keep the area safe.

Home Upgrade Grant Phase 2 (HUG2) – Check Your Eligibility for Free Energy-Saving Improvements

Residents are encouraged to check their eligibility for the Home Upgrade Grant Phase 2 (HUG2) scheme, which offers free energy-saving upgrades to help households manage heating costs and keep homes warm through winter. Funded by the government, this scheme is available to homeowners in selected local authority areas with off-gas properties who meet specific eligibility requirements.

Eligibility is determined based on factors like household income, benefit status, property location, and energy performance of the home. This initiative aims to support those who face difficulties in covering heating expenses during colder months.

Don’t miss out—check your eligibility and register your interest before Friday, 15 November. Click the link below for full details on eligibility and application information.

Protect Your Child Against Flu This Winter

Flu season is here, and if your child is between 6 months and 2 years old and falls into a clinical risk group, they may be eligible for the #flu nasal spray vaccine. This vaccine provides essential protection against flu, which can be especially severe for young children and those with underlying health conditions.

Flu can lead to serious complications, especially in vulnerable groups, so vaccination is the best defense to keep your child safe and healthy through the colder months. Contact your GP practice for more information on eligibility and to schedule an appointment. Let’s work together to keep our children safe this winter!

FOOTBALL

Greece 0 | 3 England

England is set to return to the top tier of the UEFA Nations League if they defeat the Republic of Ireland, following a commanding win over Greece in Athens. Lee Carsley’s side, despite numerous withdrawals, avenged their October loss to Greece with a 3-0 victory. Ollie Watkins scored early, while Jude Bellingham and Curtis Jones added goals in the second half. The FA acknowledged issues faced by some England fans outside the stadium and is investigating.

  • Physically Worn Out or Haggard: It describes someone or something that appears tired, aged, or worn, often due to stress, fatigue, or hardship.

    • Example: "After days without rest, he looked raddled and worn, with shadows under his eyes."

  • Confused or Mixed Up: Sometimes it means muddled or mentally confused, though this use is less common.

    • Example: "She was so raddled by the sudden news that she couldn’t think straight."
