March A Critical Month for Broxbourne and Hertfordshire
A pivotal month for local government reform in Hertfordshire and Broxbourne; Broxbourne’s Unusual Quiet International Women’s Day 2025

Good morning and welcome to Broxtown!
It’s Tuesday, 11th March, and it seems winter has made an unwelcome comeback, with the sunshine replaced by cold, grey skies – a shift that feels almost criminal! Meanwhile, the market crash last night has left many reeling, adding to the week’s drama.
The past few days have been eventful, starting with the BOB Awards last Thursday (not quite the weekend, but still a highlight), followed by the COVID-19 Reflection on Saturday, International Women’s Day on Sunday, and Commonwealth Day on Monday.
Here’s what’s making headlines today:
March: A Critical Month for Broxbourne and Hertfordshire
Broxbourne MP Speaks at COVID-19 Reflections
A Muted International Women’s Day in Broxbourne Borough

Local Government Reform: A Critical Month for Broxbourne and Hertfordshire

March 2025 is a pivotal month for local government reform in Hertfordshire, with changes that could significantly impact Broxbourne. By 21st March 2025, leaders must submit proposals to replace the current two-tier system of county and district councils with larger unitary authorities.
While Hertfordshire County Council and district leaders, including Broxbourne, have raised concerns about local accountability and financial impact, they are required to submit restructuring plans. Key questions remain: Will Broxbourne merge with neighbouring areas like East Herts and Welwyn Hatfield, or will some districts pursue independence?
Residents have yet to be consulted, leaving many uncertain about the future of local governance. We’ll keep you updated as proposals emerge, ensuring Broxbourne’s voice is heard in these critical discussions. Stay tuned!

Broxbourne Marks COVID-19 Reflection Day

On Sunday, 9th March, the Broxbourne Borough Council held a reflective service at St. Mary the Virgin Church in Cheshunt to mark the 5th anniversary of the COVID-19 pandemic. The event honoured those who lost their lives and recognised the enduring impact of the crisis.
The MP for Broxbourne delivered a heartfelt speech, emphasising the importance of the COVID-19 Day of Reflection and expressing deep gratitude to the frontline workers in attendance for their sacrifices and dedication during the pandemic. The service provided a moment for the community to come together, remember the challenges faced, and celebrate the resilience and unity that emerged from the crisis.
Broxbourne’s Quiet International Women’s Day 2025
Broxbourne’s recognition of International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025 was notably subdued, with little public acknowledgment or celebration. Given the borough’s history of supporting gender equality, this lack of visibility felt like a missed opportunity to accelerate action for women’s empowerment.
Despite possible small-scale events, the absence of a broader initiative meant fewer chances to celebrate achievements, raise awareness, and drive change. IWD is more than a date—it’s a rallying cry to push for equity and recognition.
As we look ahead to 2026, we want to hear from you:
How did you celebrate IWD this year?
What wins, big or small, deserve recognition?
What should Broxbourne do next year to make IWD more impactful?
Let’s work together to ensure Broxbourne steps up in 2026, making IWD a true catalyst for change. Share your thoughts and help accelerate action!
