GOOGLE JOB FAIR: JOB OPPORTUNITIES
Following Google’s $1 billion investment in a new data centre in Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire, the local community has felt a significant impact. The job fair they hosted highlighted Google’s contribution to the local economy and residents' lives. The 33-acre facility will support AI innovation and digital services, creating local jobs and enhancing digital infrastructure. Google plans to run the center on 24/7 carbon-free energy by 2030, incorporating sustainable practices. Stay tuned for more updates on upcoming Google events as we receive further information.
Turner and Townsend
You may have noticed that Google is developing a data centre in Broxbourne, but what you may not know is that Turner & Townsend is a key partner in the project. Turner and Townsend was present as you would expect. However, their stand was somewhat underwhelming, featuring just two representatives discussing their project management capabilities and their partnership with Google to curious members of the community. Despite their low-key presence, Turner & Townsend remains a leading global firm, managing high-value construction projects across various sectors, including data centres and clean energy. Their expertise spans project management, cost control, and digital tools, driving successful outcomes for their clients globally. They made sure to highlight their need for talents to fill job openings they have available. Click on the link below for open roles at T&T.
Alandale Logistics
Alandale Logistics was also present at the Google Job Fair, and they generated significant interest. Established in 1996, the company specialises in construction logistics, providing services such as traffic, delivery, waste, and materials management across the UK and Ireland. Their portfolio includes high-profile projects like The Shard and Wembley Park. They utilise in-house software tools like the ADBM delivery management system to enhance efficiency for their clients. While they are actively recruiting as was made clear in their interactions and the aim of the job fair, their hiring process was not clearly outlined on their website. From the website, applicants are encouraged to email their CV directly. So below is their email address - click and send them an email with your CV attached. I however encourage anyone one interested to reach out to them via LinkedIn too, it can be a very effective way of connecting with prospective hiring managers.
DORNAN ENGINEERING
Dornan Engineering was another firm that attracted significant attention at the Google Job Fair. They are an international mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation services company, delivering complex engineering solutions across sectors like life sciences, data centres, infrastructure, and renewable energy. With over 1,000 employees and projects across Europe, including Canary Wharf Station and Lonza in Switzerland, Dornan offers clear career paths for graduates, experienced professionals, and apprentices. For those with an engineering background seeking a challenge, Dornan is worth considering. Their website features a video outlining what they do and the career opportunities available.
JCA
At the event, JCA Engineering another engineering firm showcased their work on data centres and other impressive projects in their portfolio, but as you’d expect they were focused on highlighting their need for talents. JCA is a company specialising in business-critical facilities, offering services from design to maintenance across sectors like healthcare, commercial property, and data centres. JCA provides various career opportunities, including graduate schemes, apprenticeships, and flexible working arrangements. They encourage candidates to apply for roles in maintenance, project management, and design. For more details, contact them or explore current vacancies through their website.

Step2Skills
The Step2Skills team was full of energy at the Google Fair, sharing how they offer adults the chance to build or advance their careers through courses and workshops. They handed out flyers and pens while engaging with residents about their programs. Step2Skills, part of Hertfordshire County Council, provides free or low-cost courses in areas like English, math, digital skills, and vocational training, with special support for job seekers and those with learning disabilities. With half-term approaching, it's a great time to explore their autumn courses on their website.
Hertford Regional College
Hertford Regional College (HRC) showcased a range of professional certifications and courses at the job fair, from hairdressing and creative media to vocational courses like upholstery and electrical installation. They engaged with local residents, providing valuable information through leaflets and giveaways. I strongly encourage small businesses in the area to consider these courses, as many individuals are held back by the lack of proper certification. HRC’s programs, such as Level 2 Hairdressing and Level 1 Film and TV production, could be game-changers for those looking to advance or start new careers. Finding the right fit at HRC could open new doors.
Enterprise Nation/Google
Enterprise Nation’s partnership with Google through the Google Digital Garage offers incredible free digital skills training and mentoring to help small businesses grow. At their events, Google mentors share insights on improving digital marketing, boosting social media strategies, and making businesses easier to discover in Google searches. From mastering AI and machine learning to productivity hacks, these courses equip you with the tools to thrive in today’s digital landscape. With employers increasingly demanding digital expertise, these sessions are invaluable—sign up now and take advantage of the expert guidance available!
Broxbourne Borough
As co-host of the event, the Broxbourne Borough Council stand was hard to miss. The team was eager to engage with residents, answering questions and providing valuable information about council job openings and upcoming local events. They showcased various employment opportunities within the council, as well as services aimed at community engagement. For residents interested in current roles or wanting to get involved in local activities, the council encouraged everyone to visit their website for more details on the latest job listings and events happening in the borough. We will be publishing such opportunities, so make sure to check with us if you can’t be bothered to scour the website.

Bournemouth 2 | 0 Arsenal
Bournemouth ended Arsenal's unbeaten run with a 2-0 win at Vitality Stadium after William Saliba was sent off for a foul in the first half. Arsenal fought hard despite being down to 10 men but were undone by Ryan Christie's stunning top-corner strike with 20 minutes left. Justin Kluivert added a second from the penalty spot after Evanilson was fouled by David Raya. The win lifted Bournemouth to 10th in the table, ending a poor run against Arsenal, who had dominated recent encounters.

Tottenham Hotspurs 4 | 1 West Ham
Tottenham delivered an impressive second-half display to beat West Ham 4-1 in their Premier League clash. Mohammed Kudus opened the scoring for the Hammers in the 18th minute, but Spurs equalized through Dejan Kulusevski before half-time. After the break, Spurs took control, with Yves Bissouma netting the go-ahead goal. An own goal by West Ham's Jean-Clair Todibo extended their lead, and Son Heung-min added a fourth. Kudus was later sent off for violent conduct, sealing a well-deserved win for Spurs, bouncing back from their previous loss to Brighton.

Word of the Day
DEFENESTRATION
Today’s Word of the Day is Defenestration - Refers to the act of throwing someone or something out of a window. It comes from the Latin de (down from) and fenestra(window). Historically, it is notably used to describe political events, such as the "Defenestration of Prague" in 1618, which contributed to the start of the Thirty Years' War.
How to use it:
In modern usage, the term can also be used metaphorically to describe the forceful removal of someone from power or position, such as "the defenestration of a CEO," implying a sudden and dramatic dismissal.
