News in Brief
Highlights from the Google Job Fair
The job fair, organized in collaboration with Google and Broxbourne Borough, was a fantastic event. Local residents, especially recent graduates, were eager to explore the job opportunities on offer, with many excited about the chance to land a dream role with a global tech giant right on their doorstep.
The anticipation had been building for a while, thanks to solid promotion from the Broxbourne Borough website, Waltham Cross Job Centre, and various community groups, including Broxtown. The big question was whether it met expectations—and for the most part, it did. Community leaders, including the Broxbourne Borough MP Lewis Cocking, Deputy Executive Councillor Steve Wortley and the Mayor of Broxbourne Sherrie McDaid, showed their support by attending, highlighting the impact over 100 job openings could have on the local community.
Businesses were busy engaging with curious residents, offering free goodies like pens, tote bags, and notepads. One resident I spoke to was particularly keen to share his expertise in infrastructure projects with Google. Others, unsure of their current careers, found it useful to explore the possibilities in person.
Overall, we'd rate the event a solid 7 out of 10. While we hoped for more businesses and extended time for attendees, it was well-organized and brought together various partners to make it a success. We left the venue hoping for more, asking when Google will host another event to showcase opportunities and help local residents understand when they are likely to switch into tech roles closer to home. Stay tuned for our exclusive coverage of conversations with some of the businesses, coming Monday!
Broxbourne MP Steps Up to Address Resident Frustrations Over Road Closures
As a Broxtown reporter and fellow resident of Broxbourne, I can relate to the growing frustration many of us feel over the constant road closures by utility companies. These disruptions have caused major inconveniences, especially during the school run, leaving residents feeling powerless. But it seems our local MP has taken notice and is stepping in to find a solution.
In response to the complaints, the MP has written to the utility companies involved, seeking answers and urging them to consider the impact on residents. He’s also gone a step further by asking us, the residents, to share our experiences with these road closures, so he can take meaningful action on our behalf.
It’s encouraging to see the MP being proactive and standing by his promise to advocate for us, as he did during the last election. Let’s hope this brings some much-needed change to ease the frustrations many of us are feeling. Click the button below to share your experience.
