🌸 Happy Easter from Broxtown 🌸

As we begin this Easter weekend, starting today on Good Friday, we want to take a moment to wish all our readers a peaceful and joyful time with family, friends, and loved ones.

Good Friday holds deep meaning for Christians around the world — a solemn day that marks the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, His sacrifice for humanity, and His boundless love. It is a day of reflection, reverence, and remembrance.

This weekend leads us to the joyful celebration of Easter Sunday, the heart of the Christian faith, when we remember the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead — a powerful message of hope, renewal, and new life. Easter reminds us that through love and sacrifice, there is always the promise of restoration.

For Christians, it is more than a historic event — it’s an invitation to all of us, a chance to be drawn closer to God, and to reflect on the gift of grace made available to mankind through His love.

Whether you're gathering for worship, enjoying an egg hunt with the little ones, or simply spending time with family, we hope this season brings warmth, joy, and meaning to your heart.

From all of us at Broxtown,
Happy Easter — and may your weekend be full of love, peace, and light. 💛

Protecting Broxbourne’s Trees: Lessons from Enfield

Firewood tree trunk forest lumberjack tree feller logger. Made with Canon 5d Mark III and analog vintage lens, Helios 44M 2.0 58mm (Year: 1977)

The recent felling of a 450-year-old oak tree in Enfield's Whitewebbs Park by contractors for Toby Carvery has highlighted the vulnerability of ancient trees. This incident underscores the importance of proactive measures to safeguard Broxbourne's own natural heritage.

Broxbourne’s Tree Protection Measures

In Broxbourne, trees that significantly contribute to the local environment can be protected under Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs). These legal safeguards make it an offence to cut down, uproot, or damage protected trees without prior consent from the Council. Penalties for violations can include fines up to £20,000 or unlimited fines if the tree's removal increases land value .

How Residents Can Help

  • Nominate Trees for Protection: If you know of a tree that adds significant value to the community, you can recommend it for a TPO. The Council’s Tree Officer will assess its importance and potential threats .

  • Report Issues Promptly: If you observe any damage or threats to trees, especially those that are protected, report them immediately to the Council. This includes trees in parks, cemeteries, and other public spaces .

  • Stay Informed: Utilize the Council's interactive map to check if a tree is protected by a TPO or is within a conservation area .

Community Vigilance is Key

Broxtown is actively monitoring tree-related issues and encourages residents to be vigilant. If you suspect a tree is at risk due to construction or poses health and safety concerns, please notify the appropriate authorities. Your involvement is vital in ensuring that Broxbourne's natural beauty and ecological integrity are preserved for future generations.

Together, we can protect the trees that define our community's character and environment.

🍫 🥚 Waltham Cross Spring Fayre Was a HIT! 🐣🌷

If you were at the Waltham Cross Spring Fayre this Thursday, you already know — the town centre was buzzing! Families packed the high street, live music lit up the vibe, food stalls and small businesses showcased their best, and bunny ears were hopping everywhere. 🐰🎶🍭

✨ The Aladdin pantomime was pure magic, with three fantastic showings that wowed kids and adults alike. One parent shared:

“My daughter absolutely loved the show and enjoyed the Easter egg hunt!” 🎭🍫

But not everyone got the memo —

“I didn’t even realise any of this was happening in the Cross…” 😔

That’s exactly why Broxtown is here — to keep you in the know about events like this and everything else happening across the borough. If you missed this one, don’t miss the next!

🙏 Massive thanks to all the volunteers who helped make the day so special.
👏 Huge shoutout to the Broxbourne Council Town Centre team for making it all run smoothly.
🌟 And a heartfelt thank you to the Love Waltham Cross team — your energy, planning, and love for the community truly brought the event to life. 💛

Let’s keep this momentum going — subscribe to Broxtown and never miss a moment again.

Frustration Grows Amid Ongoing Works in Waltham Cross Town Centre

Regeneration works in Waltham Cross town centre are moving ahead at pace, with visible progress along the High Street. New paving has already been installed across several sections, and major infrastructure upgrades are well underway — but for some residents and visitors, navigating the area has become a daily challenge.

While there’s general support for the town’s regeneration, frustration is mounting over access issues and limited signage.

One shopper voiced what many are feeling:

“We’re aware you're still open, but it’s becoming a real mission trying to find a way into the Pavilion lately! Maybe some signposting showing us ways to enter would be useful???”
“It seems like we’re entering a different maze each time we visit.”

What’s Being Done

In recent months, works have included:

  • Excavation, drainage, and ducting for new street and traffic lights at Monarchs Way.

  • Ongoing improvements at the entrance to Eleanor Cross Road (8am–6pm weekdays, occasionally 7am–10pm and possible night shifts).

  • New paving installations already completed along sections of the High Street.

The Eleanor Cross Road and Pavilions car parks remain open, though access can be tricky at times.

Looking ahead, from 21 April 2025, night-time works will restart at the Stanhope Road junction, progressing southward and along the northbound Monarchs Way carriageway. These works will run between 10pm and 5am and are expected to take 3–4 weeks.

Patience with Progress

Residents continue to show patience, with most recognising the long-term benefits of the scheme. However, there’s a clear call for better signage and clearer directions, especially around key destinations like the Pavilion, to reduce everyday stress and confusion.

Broxtown will keep monitoring progress and sharing updates — and we encourage residents to keep sending feedback.
