Community Updates

Shaping the Future of North East and Central Hertfordshire: Have Your Say!

Big changes are on the horizon following recent devolution announcements, and local councils are working hard to ensure these changes benefit our communities. Residents have been asking how they’ll be involved in shaping the future of our council and its impact on local districts—and now’s your chance to play a role.

Broxbourne Council is collaborating with East Herts, North Herts, Stevenage, Welwyn Hatfield, and Hertfordshire County Council to create a shared vision for sustainable growth in North East and Central Hertfordshire through to 2050. This vision focuses on six key themes:

🌍 Climate Change and Environment
🏠 Housing and Infrastructure
👩‍💼 Employment and Economic Growth
🛠️ Essential Facilities (schools, transport, health services, and utilities)

The aim is to build a strategic plan that ensures a stronger, unified approach to meeting the needs of our growing communities while allowing each district to prepare its own local plans within the shared framework.

Your input is vital to making this vision a reality. Share your views and help shape the services and future developments in your area.

Hertfordshire Residents Urged to Act Now on £1.1 Billion Budget Plan

Hertfordshire County Council has unveiled its draft budget for the upcoming year, detailing plans to allocate over £1.1 billion to fund vital services. This is your chance to shape the future of your community by reviewing the proposals and completing the council’s short budget survey.

The survey invites you to voice your opinions on:

  • Service Priorities: Which services should take precedence in the county’s spending plan.

  • Funding Strategies: The best ways to raise funds to maintain and improve these services.

  • Service Usage: Feedback on services you have used and how they’ve impacted you.

This is a rare opportunity to make your voice heard on decisions that directly affect your community. Don’t wait to question or support the proposals—your feedback could prevent essential services from being reduced or eliminated altogether.

Remember, if you don’t participate, you can’t complain about the changes later. Click below to complete the survey and ensure your voice is part of shaping Hertfordshire’s future.

MEME of the Day

And the book - ‘The Perfect Husband’ is in the comedy section 🤣

Word of the Day

SECULAR

Today’s Word of the Day is SECULAR - describes things that are not spiritual; that is, they relate more to the physical world than the spiritual world. The word also carries the closely related meaning of "not religious.".

How to use it:

  • "The country has a secular government, meaning that no single religion is given preference in its policies."

  • Explanation: This means the government is neutral and does not align itself with any particular religious group.

  • "Her interests are largely secular, focusing on science, arts, and technology rather than religion."

  • Explanation: "Secular" here contrasts with spiritual or religious pursuits.

The word "secular" is often used to draw a distinction between what is religious and what is not, helping to clarify boundaries in social, political, or cultural contexts.
