What’s happening in Broxbourne?

Today is Odd Socks Day! 🧦

As part of Anti-Bullying Week, today is Odd Socks Day—a fun and meaningful way to celebrate what makes each of us unique. By wearing mismatched socks, we’re spreading the message of this year’s theme, Choose Respect, and reminding everyone of the importance of respect and kindness.

Organised by the Anti-Bullying Alliance, this campaign encourages students, teachers, and communities to take positive steps against bullying. Following last year’s impact, reaching over 7.5 million young people, schools nationwide are joining in with resources, assemblies, and today’s odd socks to show that differences are what make us special. There are local resources you can get your hands such as the book Big Little Voice: Colours the Grey written by a local writer M.G. Vaciago.

Hertfordshire County Council Showcases Achievements and Addresses Challenges in Annual Report

Hertfordshire County Council recently published its Annual Report, offering residents and businesses a look into the council’s accomplishments and services over the 2023/24 financial year. The report highlights key achievements, such as the opening of a new recycling center, support for 38,700 children with special educational needs, planting over 115,000 trees, and a 27% reduction in the council’s carbon footprint since 2019. Other notable services include nearly 10,000 safety visits by Hertfordshire Fire Service, support for 80,501 households through the Household Support Fund, and 2.7 million library visits. The report also addresses challenges and financial pressures, with a focus on future efficiency through an organizational transformation.
