Carnage at Liverpool Victory Parade—Broxtown’s Thoughts with the Victims

From celebration to catastrophe: Community offers condolences after devastating incident.

Tuesday, 27th May

Good Morning Reader,

What was meant to be a day of pure celebration in Liverpool took a tragic turn. Our hearts and prayers are with all the victims—we wish them a swift and full recovery. For those of us who gathered for Tottenham’s and Arsenal’s own victory parades, it’s a sobering reminder of how precious and fragile these moments of joy can be. Personally, I can only say—thank God for protection.

On a lighter note, here’s a football gem I dug up: on this day in 1998, a young Michael Owen, just 18, became England’s youngest ever international goalscorer, netting the winner in a friendly against Morocco in Casablanca. Football history never disappoints!

It really has been all about football. Spurs and Arsenal have been trying to outdo each other, and we’ve been here for every twist and turn. In Cheshunt, some of the lads kept the party going with late-night singalongs echoing down the street. And Arsenal? Well, it’s become their own version of a “treble”—finishing second for the third year in a row! Not quite the history fans hoped for, but Arsenal Women came to the rescue and made sure the red half of North London had something massive to celebrate.

Tragedy at Liverpool FC Parade – Broxtown Stands with Liverpool

What began as a joyful day in Liverpool turned tragic when a car drove into crowds celebrating Liverpool FC’s Premier League victory. The incident on Water Street left dozens injured, including two seriously, with 27 treated in hospital. Police have arrested a 53-year-old local man believed to be the driver.

Witnesses described scenes of panic and disbelief as celebrations quickly turned to fear. Emergency services responded swiftly, but the day was “ruined,” as one witness put it, for everyone present.

Here in Broxbourne, we are deeply saddened by these events. As Spurs and Arsenal fans, we know the joy of celebrating football victories together and can only imagine the shock and pain now felt in Liverpool. Our thoughts, sympathy, and support go out to all those affected and the entire Liverpool community.

Scenes of Joy as Spurs Fans Flood North London to Celebrate European Triumph

Courtesy BBC Sport

For the past few days, north London has been awash with a sea of Tottenham Hotspur fans celebrating a moment that’s been 17 years in the making. The streets have echoed with songs, flags, and the relentless energy of supporters revelling in Europa League glory.

Even with Spurs losing their final game of the domestic season—and a year that saw plenty of disappointments in the league—none of it mattered. Fans from across the borough caught trains into north London, joining thousands already filling the streets. Young and old, locals and those traveling from afar, all united in celebration. For many, it was a rare chance to be part of the action, as the festivities were open and free for everyone to enjoy.

Scores, performances, and statistics faded into the background. Spurs’ season may have been inconsistent, but their triumph in Europe was the only result that counted. On this day, Tottenham fans around the world joined in the joy, proving that when a trophy is finally lifted, it’s the celebrations—and the memories—that truly matter.

A day of football celebration for Spurs fans everywhere, and one they’ll never forget.

Arsenal Women Crowned European Champions, Bringing North London Double Delight

Courtesy BBC Sport

While Arsenal’s men may have missed out on silverware this season, it was the Arsenal Women who delivered, ensuring a trophy still found its way to the red half of north London. In a stunning display, Arsenal Women defeated European heavyweights Barcelona 1-0, claiming their first Champions League title in 18 years.

Stina Blackstenius scored the decisive goal, while captain Leah Williamson—who grew up supporting the club and was once a mascot for their 2007 European triumph—lifted the trophy to the delight of 10,000 jubilant fans outside the Emirates Stadium. “Do you believe in magic?” Williamson asked the crowd, capturing the sense of destiny and pride felt by all present.

As Tottenham fans celebrated their Europa League victory, Arsenal Women made sure north London’s celebrations were doubled—proving it’s not about rivalry this time, but shared success across the city. Both sides of north London had cause for joy, with Arsenal Women making it a season to remember and ensuring the biggest trophy of all stayed close to home.

A proud moment for Arsenal, a triumphant moment for north London, and proof that magic—and glory—still lives in the capital.

COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT

Louise Helen Guiver’s Dedication to Broxbourne & Cheshunt Cadets

Broxbourne is a borough built on the commitment and spirit of its volunteers, and few embody this better than Louise Helen Guiver. On 22nd May 2025, during the special 10th Anniversary and Awards Evening for the Broxbourne & Cheshunt Volunteer Police Cadets, Louise’s outstanding contributions took centre stage.

Louise has made a lasting impact this year through her work with the cadets, teaching vital Emergency Canine Care skills. She describes this experience as her proudest achievement of 2025, sharing:

“My proudest moment and achievement of 2025 has been teaching and empowering Broxbourne & Cheshunt Volunteer Police Cadets Emergency Canine Care.”

The evening was made even more memorable by the attendance of the Deputy Mayor, Cllr Sacha, who joined the celebrations to honour both the cadets and the volunteers. The Deputy Mayor’s presence highlighted just how important community-led initiatives are for Broxbourne.

The cadets themselves have expressed deep appreciation for Louise’s dedication and the invaluable skills she has shared. The whole community, including the cadets, is thrilled to see Louise continue her journey of service.

Louise also announced she will be joining the cadets as a Volunteer Cadet Leader, allowing her to stay connected with the extended police family and continue empowering our future community leaders. She said:

“I am excited to announce that I will be joining them as a Volunteer Cadet Leader. I have loved providing them this training and returning back to the Extended Police Family.”

On behalf of the entire Broxbourne Borough, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to Louise and all volunteers who dedicate their time, knowledge, and compassion to make our community a safer and stronger place. Your work inspires us all and ensures the spirit of service continues to thrive.

Thank you, Louise, for your unwavering commitment—and congratulations to the Broxbourne & Cheshunt Volunteer Police Cadets on their 10th anniversary!
