News at Glance

Broxbourne Crime Rates Buck the Trend with Surprising Declines While Vehicle Thefts Surge

Yesterday, Broxbourne’s local police hosted their first Facebook Live of the year, a platform they’ve been using for the past five years to share updates, address priorities, and answer residents’ questions. Presented by Sgt. Chris and Sgt. Jade, the session offered insights into crime trends and community safety.

While crime across the county has risen due to stricter national crime reporting standards, there’s good news for Broxbourne: the borough recorded the lowest increase in crime countywide, even below Three Rivers. Overall, crime is down in Broxbourne, with decreases in burglaries and shoplifting. However, Hoddesdon remains a hotspot for shoplifting, and vehicle crime continues to be a concern.

Key Advice from the Police:

  • Protect your cars with additional trackers (e.g., AirTags, steering locks) beyond manufacturer-installed devices.

  • Use Faraday bags for keyless fobs to prevent theft.

  • Invest in CCTVs and smart doorbells, but be cautious of Wi-Fi-only devices as Wi-Fi blockers can disable recordings.

The session also tackled other concerns like e-bikes and car meets, with both sergeants efficiently addressing residents’ questions, including a detailed explanation of Section 4 regulations (don’t worry, we’re still figuring that one out too!).

To wrap things up, Sgt. Jade Penny gave a huge shoutout to Broxtown Newsletter, encouraging residents to sign up to stay informed about local news and community updates.

Stay safe, Broxbourne, and don’t forget to follow the advice shared to keep our borough safe🚓✨

Cheshunt Residents Still Waiting for Banking Services as MP Fights for a Banking Hub

Cheshunt continues to face the challenge of being without a local banking service, leaving businesses and residents in need of essential financial support. While many have transitioned to online banking, the absence of physical banking facilities remains a significant inconvenience for those who rely on in-person services for deposits, withdrawals, and other critical tasks.

A proposal to establish a Banking Hub in Cheshunt has been on the table for some time, but progress has stalled. Broxbourne Borough MP, Lewis Cocking has been vocal about the issue, recently taking to Facebook to express his frustrations over the lack of action from decision-makers in Westminster. His ongoing efforts to secure a Banking Hub underscore the importance of this service to the local community.

For many residents, the nearest banking options are in Waltham Cross or even further afield, a hurdle that disproportionately affects the elderly, small business owners, and those without access to reliable transportation. The lack of a local branch impacts not just individuals but the economic vitality of Cheshunt, as businesses also struggle to manage their finances efficiently.

While the MP’s frustration is palpable, we encourage him to persevere on behalf of Cheshunt’s residents and businesses. A Banking Hub would restore much-needed access to financial services and ease the strain on the community.

If you’re affected by the loss of local banking services, we want to hear from you! What do you miss most, and how has it impacted your daily life?

Broxbourne MP Continues to Be a Champion for Constituents

Since being elected, the Broxbourne MP has consistently prioritised being accessible to the people he represents. Whether meeting with local businesses, listening to residents’ concerns, or sharing his plans for the borough, his commitment to helping constituents remains unwavering.

In a recent social media post, the MP shared highlights from his visits to two key local venues:

  • The Beaumont Centre: "I had a really enjoyable morning at The Beaumont Centre, where I spoke about a range of issues with members and heard about all the great work the centre does 5 days a week—including offering a great value hot meal for just £5."

  • Lee Valley Regional Park: "It was great to meet with Shaun Dawson, Chief Executive at Lee Valley Regional Park, to discuss the organisation's plans for our area, as well as a number of ongoing issues that my constituents have been contacting me about."

These visits reflect his hands-on approach to understanding community concerns and working towards meaningful solutions. The MP regularly hosts constituency surgeries across Broxbourne to address individual issues and welcomes anyone needing assistance to attend or reach out.

If you have a concern or need support, you’re invited to connect with him directly. Visit his surgeries or contact him using the link below. Together, let’s continue building a stronger, more connected community.

Shaping the Future of North East and Central Hertfordshire: Have Your Say!

Big changes are on the horizon following recent devolution announcements, and local councils are working hard to ensure these changes benefit our communities. Residents have been asking how they’ll be involved in shaping the future of our council and its impact on local districts—and now’s your chance to play a role.

Broxbourne Council is collaborating with East Herts, North Herts, Stevenage, Welwyn Hatfield, and Hertfordshire County Council to create a shared vision for sustainable growth in North East and Central Hertfordshire through to 2050. This vision focuses on six key themes:

🌍 Climate Change and Environment
🏠 Housing and Infrastructure
👩‍💼 Employment and Economic Growth
🛠️ Essential Facilities (schools, transport, health services, and utilities)

The aim is to build a strategic plan that ensures a stronger, unified approach to meeting the needs of our growing communities while allowing each district to prepare its own local plans within the shared framework.

Your input is vital to making this vision a reality. Share your views and help shape the services and future developments in your area.

Hertfordshire Leads the Way in AI Innovation with Autonomous Pothole Repair Tech

Hertfordshire County Council is making waves nationally for its innovative use of AI to transform public services. Featured in a recent article on groundbreaking government AI applications, the AI-powered Autonomous Road Repair System (ARRES) is gaining attention for its potential to reshape road maintenance.

In collaboration with Robotiz3d and Liverpool University, the county has been instrumental in developing and testing ARRES PREVENT. This cutting-edge system uses AI to detect cracks and potholes, automatically filling them to prevent further damage. Though still a prototype, ARRES promises to save time, reduce costs, and minimize the disruption potholes cause to drivers.

While we’re excited about the future of pothole-free roads, we can’t help but wonder—how long until AI takes full control of road repairs? And what else could AI do to revolutionize public services?

We want to hear your thoughts! Use the link below to share your ideas. Broxtown is always eager to collaborate with businesses using AI to solve public sector challenges.

The future of government services is here, and Hertfordshire is leading the way.

North London Stays Red as Arsenal Beat Spurs in a Thrilling Derby

Arsenal edged closer to Premier League leaders Liverpool, cutting the gap to four points with a hard-fought victory over Tottenham at the Emirates on Wednesday 15th Jan 2025. Despite an early setback with Son Heung-min’s deflected opener, the Gunners responded swiftly. Gabriel’s header, deflected by Dominic Solanke for an own goal, leveled the score, and Leandro Trossard’s strike shortly after sealed the win.

Mikel Arteta’s side dominated the second half but missed chances to secure a bigger margin. Spurs nearly equalized late, with Pedro Porro hitting the post.

Arsenal remain in the title race—and North London remains RED. 🔴⚽
