Broxbourne Community Urges Caution on Bonfire Night

As Bonfire Night celebrations approach, residents are urging fireworks users to be mindful of pets and vulnerable individuals by keeping displays outside residential areas. The Broxbourne Community Safety Partnership, part of the Hertfordshire Constabulary, has issued guidance to ensure a safe celebration.

In a statement, they reminded residents:

  • 🎆 Follow government guidelines if using fireworks on private property: link.

  • 🎆 Fireworks can be distressing for young children, the elderly, and pets.

  • 🎆 Firework purchases are restricted to those 16 and over for sparklers and other novelties, and 18+ for standard fireworks.

  • 🎆 It is illegal to set off fireworks between 11pm and 7am, except on specific holidays.

  • 🎆 Fireworks are prohibited in public places.

  • 🎆 Avoid releasing Chinese Lanterns due to fire and livestock hazards.

Extra police patrols will be active to keep the community safe. Residents are encouraged to celebrate responsibly.

Cedars Nature Centre Appeals for Community Support Amid Winter Closure

Starting this week, Cedars Nature Centre will be closed on weekdays during term time throughout winter. Created as an affordable, accessible attraction for the community, Cedars has struggled with rising costs that now outweigh weekday attendance.

Many are unaware that Cedars is a small, privately run business—not council-funded. With low visitor numbers on weekdays, the centre can no longer sustain daily operations without additional support. It will remain open on weekends, school holidays, and for pre-booked experiences.

Here’s how you can help keep Cedars open and thriving:

  1. Visit on weekends – Bring friends and enjoy animal talks every 45 minutes for just £2.40.

  2. Adopt an animal – A unique gift that supports the animals directly.

  3. Attend holiday events – Meet the Grinch and Santa this winter!

  4. Book an animal experience – Great for gift-giving and available during weekdays even while closed.

  5. Support via Amazon Wish List – Link in the comments.

Please share this post to help spread the word and support one of Broxbourne’s beloved community attractions. Thank you!

Word of The Day

FUGACIOUS

Today’s Word of the Day is FUGACIOUS - means something that is fleeting, short-lived, or lasting only a brief period. It originates from the Latin fugax, meaning "apt to flee," and is often used to describe things that are temporary or quickly fading, such as emotions, beauty, or even certain natural elements.

How to use it:

  • The fugacious beauty of the cherry blossoms captivated all who saw them, knowing they would be gone in just a few days.

  • Her joy was fugacious, disappearing as quickly as it had come.

  • Spring brings a fugacious burst of colour to the garden before the blooms fade away."

In essence, fugacious highlights the transitory nature of something, often adding a poetic or reflective tone to the description.
