Cheshunt Honours the Fallen in a Moving Remembrance Procession

Yesterday, Cheshunt stood united as the annual Remembrance procession moved from the Royal British Legion in Theobalds, winding through Turners Hill. Roads were closed to allow a clear path for the march, with residents lining the streets to pay their respects, creating a striking display of community unity and reverence.

The Mayor of Broxbourne, Councillor Sherrie McDaid, joined the ceremony, which concluded with a wreath-laying at the memorial behind the Almshouses. Representatives from the police cadets, sea cadets, army cadets, fire brigade, local police, council, and various community organizations stood in tribute, reflecting the collective strength in remembering those who served.

Brian Taylor, Vice-Chairman of the British Legion, emphasized the importance of the day. “These people have got to be remembered… Many never came back, and we must commemorate that every year,” he said.

From young to old, Cheshunt residents gathered, filling the streets in a shared moment of respect and gratitude. It was a powerful sight as our community remembered together. Lest we forget. 🌺

Broxbourne and Hoddesdon Stand in Solemn Remembrance

Yesterday, the communities of Broxbourne and Hoddesdon each held moving ceremonies to honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

In Broxbourne, residents gathered at the historic St. Augustine’s Church, where hymns, moments of silence, and heartfelt reflections filled the air with a sense of unity and gratitude. Following the service, cadets, scouts, and residents marched to the World War I memorial, laying wreaths in a powerful tribute to the courage and sacrifice of our fallen heroes. People of all ages joined in, ensuring that the memory of these heroes lives on.

In Hoddesdon, residents came together for their own ceremony, with generations spanning seniors to Gen Z gathering in a respectful show of appreciation. After a reflective service, wreaths were laid at the Hoddesdon War Memorial, offering a solemn reminder of the courage and resilience of those who served. The gentle laying of poppies and shared silence marked a meaningful tribute to the soldiers who gave everything for our freedom.

Though held separately, these ceremonies in Broxbourne and Hoddesdon showcased the shared dedication of both communities to honour and remember those who fought for their country. Lest we forget. 🌺

Reflection from Remembrance Sunday parade.

On Remembrance Sunday, Cheshunt gathered in a solemn tribute to honor those who sacrificed their lives in service. Brian Taylor, Vice-Chairman of the Royal British Legion in Cheshunt, reflected on the significance of the event, noting its growth as "one of the biggest parades now in Broxbourne." With an estimated 800 attendees, including many cadets and young children, Taylor expressed hope that this strong turnout signals a lasting commitment to passing down the legacy of remembrance.

He emphasised the importance of honouring those who didn’t return: “These people have got to be remembered. It’s the only time any of the forces are remembered for what they gave." This year was particularly special as it marked the first attendance by the Lord Lieutenant, a representative of the Crown, which Taylor saw as a testament to the event’s rising significance.

As the parade commenced, the atmosphere was filled with pride and gratitude. Taylor’s words captured the shared purpose of the gathering: to remember, honor, and ensure that the sacrifices made by so many are never forgotten.

PM Keir Starmer Makes History with Armistice Day Tribute in France

In a historic gesture, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer will honour Armistice Day in France, becoming the first UK leader to do so since Winston Churchill during World War II. Invited by French President Emmanuel Macron, Starmer will join British and French veterans in a solemn tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for peace. This unprecedented event underscores the unity between the two nations in remembering their shared history.

Today, the UK also observes Armistice Day with a nationwide two-minute silence at 11:00 AM, marking the end of World War I and honoring the resilience of those who served. This annual tradition, which began with the 1918 truce, brings together offices, schools, and communities across the country in a powerful moment of remembrance.

Kicking Off Anti-Bullying Week Today

Anti-Bullying Week 2024 is set to run from Monday, 11th November, to Friday, 15th November, with the empowering theme Choose Respect. Organized by the Anti-Bullying Alliance (ABA), this year’s campaign focuses on fostering respect and taking positive actions to counter bullying's harm. The theme was inspired by consultations with teachers and students who sought a proactive approach to addressing bullying.

A highlight of the week is Odd Socks Day on Tuesday, 12th November, where everyone is encouraged to wear odd socks to celebrate their uniqueness. Following last year’s success—reaching over 7.5 million young people across 80% of schools—this year’s initiative offers free resources for schools, including themed lesson plans and assemblies, to help students understand how to actively choose respect.

This year’s theme video is available on YouTube. Click the button below to watch the video and join the movement to spread respect and kindness! ABA’s campaign will also run across media, social media, and community channels, inviting everyone to take part at home, at school, or in the workplace. Watch this space for more updates as Anti-Bullying Week unfolds!

Chelsea 1 | 1 Arsenal

Pedro Neto's impressive equalizer helped Chelsea secure a 1-1 draw against Arsenal in a lively match at Stamford Bridge, leaving both teams on 19 points and nine points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool. Arsenal took the lead with Gabriel Martinelli’s near-post finish off a cross from Martin Odegaard, while Chelsea deservedly leveled when Neto fired a low shot past David Raya after a pass from Enzo Fernandez.

In a game filled with chances, Chelsea’s Cole Palmer tested Raya early on, and Malo Gusto missed a close-range header, while Arsenal’s Leandro Trossard nearly scored from William Saliba’s cross in the final seconds. Bukayo Saka exited with an injury late in the game, leaving Arsenal without a win in their last five outings.

Tottenham Hotspurs 1 | 2 Ipswich Town

Ipswich celebrated their first Premier League win in 22 years with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Tottenham. The Tractor Boys, struggling to hold leads since their top-flight return, finally clinched all three points, lifting them out of the bottom three. Sam Szmodics opened the scoring with an overhead kick past Tottenham's Guglielmo Vicario, followed by Liam Delap’s close-range finish ten minutes later.

Tottenham’s Rodrigo Bentancur pulled one back in the 69th minute, but despite late pressure and a blocked effort from Dominic Solanke, Spurs couldn’t find an equalizer. This marked Ipswich’s first Premier League away win since 2002, witnessed by their third-kit designer and supporter Ed Sheeran in the stands.

Motivational Quotes

Embrace who you are today, and keep moving forward. Growth means leaving the past behind and focusing on the possibilities ahead.

Word of the Day

TRUNCATE

Today’s Word of the Day is TRUNCATE - means to shorten something by cutting off a part of it, often the end. In language or data processing, it typically refers to limiting the length of text or data by removing part of it to fit a specific constraint.

How to use it:

  • The data in the report was truncated to fit within the page limits, resulting in some lost details.

  • The essay was too long, so I had to truncate several paragraphs to meet the word count.

In these examples, "truncate" is used to describe reducing the length or amount by cutting parts off.
