News at Glance

Big Changes for Route 242: What’s Next?

The rumours were true! After weeks of speculation, Metroline confirmed they will stop operating Route 242 on Friday, 3rd January 2025. But don’t panic—a new operator is set to take over the next day, according to Hertfordshire County Council. Here’s Metroline’s official statement:

"It is with regret that the Metroline operation of Route 242 will cease... Following consultation with Hertfordshire County Council, their plan is that a new operator will take over the 242 bus service from Saturday 4th January."

Residents have been buzzing about the announcement, with reactions ranging from relief to frustration. Some welcomed the chance for improvements:

"They better find someone to take it over. Lots of people need that bus! Was bad enough it was only once an hour."

Others shared concerns about losing a key connection:

"If this route went, half of Cheshunt would have no bus at all! It’s the only reliable one around here."

There’s also speculation that Central Connect, which runs the Sunday service for 242, might step in full-time. Fingers crossed!

For now, we’re watching closely to see what happens next. Got thoughts on bus services in Hertfordshire? Let us know—we’d love to hear from you!

Broxbourne MP Urges Action on Anti-Social Behaviour in Parliament

On Wednesday, 27th November, the MP for Broxbourne took to the House of Commons to address the pressing issue of anti-social behaviour affecting local communities. In his speech, he highlighted the critical role of housing associations in tackling the problem, stating:

"The Government should use every lever available to reduce anti-social behaviour, including co-ordination with housing associations."

The MP’s call to action prompted a response from the Housing Minister, which he later reflected on in a social media post. He emphasized his commitment to ensuring tangible outcomes, writing:

"I will be closely monitoring whether the government announcement will have a real impact on tackling anti-social behaviour in Broxbourne."

This proactive stance underscores the MP's determination to prioritize community safety and hold all stakeholders accountable. Residents will be eager to see how these discussions translate into concrete measures to curb anti-social behaviour in the borough.

Hummels’ Late Equaliser Denies Spurs Europa League Victory

Veteran defender Mats Hummels salvaged a late draw for Claudio Ranieri’s Roma against Tottenham in the Europa League. The 35-year-old German, returning to European action for the first time since the 2023 Champions League final, conceded an early penalty but redeemed himself in stoppage time, tapping in Angelino’s cross.

Spurs dominated early on, with Son Heung-min converting the penalty Hummels conceded and Brennan Johnson adding a well-taken second. Roma's Evan N'Dicka equalised briefly before Johnson restored Tottenham’s lead. Spurs missed several chances to extend their advantage, with Dominic Solanke, Son, and Pedro Porro hitting the woodwork, while Roma had two goals disallowed for offside.

Despite Spurs’ control, Roma’s late pressure paid off, leaving Ange Postecoglou's side ninth in the league standings, with tough fixtures ahead. Roma, under veteran manager Claudio Ranieri, continue to show resilience in a turbulent season.
